Danish heavy-metalists ALKYMIST, was formed in 2016 by guitarist Stefan Krey (Gas Giant), bass player Kaspar Luke (Düreforsög) and vocalist Peter Bjørneg (Detest). In 2017 and drummer Philip Kjær Morthorst (The Ritual) completed the lineup. The intention was to create the heaviest possible music within an atmospheric universe.
The debut-EP ‘Element’, produced by ALKYMIST themselves, was released January 2018 and the EP’s spirited and original approach to progressive sludgy doom, as well as the minimalistic visual aesthetics, created a buzz in the Danish scene, where expectations for the band’s forthcoming album was noticeable.
In october 2018, ALKYMIST released their ’s/t’ debut album on Indisciplinarian, which was defined as progressive doom metal… a sort of “art metal”, that shares a community of spirit with classical music and 70’s progressive rock. ALKYMIST, with no submission to any conventions of genre or rules of styles, are their own masters with a complex sound, noticeable virtuosity and superior compositional overview.
Just one and a half year after the much acclaimed self titled debut album, ALKYMIST sets out on another trip that takes you far beyond this world and into their strange and crushingly heavy realm of brutal, yet beautiful and grandiose soundscapes.
ALKYMIST enters the void between heaven and hell with the release of their second album ‘Sanctuary’ in May 2020 on Indisciplinarian. Here they offer the listener an immersive, spiritual and transcendent journey which revolves around metaphysical questioning, soul searching, mental and cerebral escape and ultimately the quest to achieve redemption.
Once again ALKYMIST embraces all the massive characteristics of doom metal alongside the adventurous spirit of classical music and 70’s progressive rock that inhabits the band’s distinct musical amalgam.
The bands musical approach is free from trivialities and limitations, resulting in a modern interpretation of doom metal with intensive layers of instrumentation, melodic compositional progression and a captivating lyrical universe.
ALKYMIST lets the music generate a space for interpretation, in which the listener is able to form own images, moods and conceptions. You are invited into a boundary pushing world full of paradoxes, primordial forces in a complex, intense and lyrical soundscape. Source: Akymist Facebook page
